Frances G. “Gerrie” Pope

May 1, 1940 – December 12, 2020

Of Plantation Key, Florida, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side, on December 12, 2020.  Beloved wife of the late William “Bill” R. Pope, Sr.; cherished mother of Lori Pope Harrop (George), and William “Billy” R. Pope, Jr. (Amy); and devoted grandmother to her three grandchildren, William “Will” H. Harrop, Marguerite “Meg” A. Harrop, and William R. Pope, III.   Known as the glue of the family, Gerrie is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, and extended family.  She is predeceased by her parents, Mary Jane and Robert Edward Troy, her husband, William “Bill” R. Pope, Sr., and her siblings, Robert Troy, James Troy, Mary Jane Fonda, William Troy, Sarah Margaret Dolce and John Troy.

Raised in a tightknit Irish Catholic family in Rosedale, Queens, New York, Gerrie was the sixth of seven children, all of whom she loved dearly, and was the daughter of a New York City police officer and a telephone operator.  At 19, she married the love of her life, Bill Pope, also from Rosedale, and they enjoyed a long and happy marriage for 53 years.  They moved to Miami in 1967, and by 1971 Bill and Gerrie had moved to Plantation Key, where they lovingly raised their family.  The move was initially more Bill’s idea than Gerrie’s, as she was a bit apprehensive about the water, but she quickly embraced the Keys, enjoying the community and becoming a real estate agent serving the Keys for over 35 years.  She loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and performances over the years, and was a regular fan cheering them on from the sidelines.  Gerrie was also a faithful and active parishioner at San Pedro Catholic Church for 49 years.   She loved music and dancing, and a good laugh.  Gerrie received much joy from being around children, all of whom loved her.  Her warm heart and open arms drew people to her, and her loving spirit will continue to inspire us all.

A private funeral mass was held for Gerrie at San Pedro Catholic Church, and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
