Stephen Carr

December 20, 1963 — November 24, 2016

Stephen Swope Carr, 52, of Islamorada, Florida passed away unexpectedly on November 24.  Steve was born in Canton, Ohio and graduated from Hoover High School in 1981.  In high school he was selected to Boys State, and placed third in the state for Lincoln Douglas debate.  He attended Ohio University, and was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity.  Steve lived in the Florida Keys – Islamorada and Key West for the past 8 years – his paradise.  Steve was employed by Robbie’s Marina in Islamorada, and was recently named Citizen of the Day in the Florida Keys.  He was known for his love of fishing, the “pirate life” and was a huge fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines.  He was crowned “key lime pie eating champion” in Key West in 2015.  Steve was lovingly referred to as “Uncle Buck” by his nieces and nephews. He had an infectious laugh, lived life to the fullest, and had a big heart.

Steve is survived by his beloved daughter, Lindsey Carr. She was his greatest treasure, his pride and joy, his “sweet potato.”  They shared many wonderful times; memories that will be cherished. Also survived by his sisters, Sarah (Tim) Wenger, Laura (Rich) Milligan, nieces Amanda (Matt) DeCastro, Rachel (Gabe) Helton, Sarah Milligan, Anna Milligan, Faith Milligan, and nephew Kevin Shirka, and countless friends that became his extended family.  Preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Carol Carr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lindsey Carr’s college fund via Go Fund Me:  https://www.gofundme.com/steve-carr-fund-lindsey-education.

A memorial service and celebration of Steve’s life will be held at Allen-Beyer Funeral Home 101640 Overseas Hwy, Key Largo, FL on Friday, Dec. 16.  Visitation from 10:30 am to noon preceding service.  There will be a gathering of friends at Robbie’s Marina of Islamorada immediately following the service. A gathering of friends will be held at the Geisen Haus in North Canton, Ohio on Friday, December 30 from 6 pm-8 pm.
