Phyllis Wilkinson

The Service of Remembrance for Ms. Phyllis Ann Wilkinson, 87, of Key Largo, Florida, will be on December 9, 2017. The family will receive friends from 10am through noon at Allen-Beyer Funeral Home with lunch to follow. Online condolences may be sent to the family at AllenBeyer.com

She was born July 2, 1930, in Mount Vernon, New York, daughter of Earl and Eleanor (Madsen) Wilkinson and died Sept. 24, 2017, at the Trustbridge Hospice Center, Bethesda Hospital East in Boynton Beach, Florida, after evacuation from her beloved Key Largo ahead of hurricane Irma.

Ms. Wilkinson became the first woman Air Traffic Controller in Tallahassee and retired from the Federal Aviation Administration after serving 35 years in Federal Civil Service. She had also been active in the National Association of Air Traffic Specialists national organization where she served as union president in the late seventies. Ms. Wilkinson moved to Key Largo, Florida, from Homestead, in 1992 after Hurricane Andrew. She became a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Florida Keys Chapter where she was a past Chapter Regent.

Ms. Wilkinson was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marie Weller and daughter Julie Coppock. She is survived by her children: son Gordon W. "Casey" Jones Jr. of Tallahassee, Florida, son Michael Earl Jones of Tallahassee, Florida, daughter Janet Curll of Key Largo, Florida, daughter Joyce Jones of Key Largo, Florida, daughter Kathe Price of Ellicott City, Maryland, daughter Stacey Cox of Tallahassee, Florida, 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Beyer Funeral Home.
