Edward Armbruster Iii

March 30, 1921 — July 12, 2017

Edward Armbruster, Age 96, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2017 to join Harriet, his wife. He was born on March 30, 1921 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Louise and Edward Armbruster.

At an early age, he moved to Amityville, N.Y. It was here, living on the water, that he developed a love of the Great South Bay. Ed graduated from Oswego St. Teachers College where he received two master’s degrees. During this time, he also served in the United States Army Air Force. Ed’s love for working with his hands and his love for kids led to his being an industrial arts teacher in Lindenhurst School District and Farmingdale School District where he retired after 35 years.

Ed married Harriet on July 15, 1944. His children believe that he wanted to be with their mom on their 73rd anniversary. After marriage, they moved to Massapequa, N.Y. where they raised their three children, Cathie (Don), Mary Lou (Mark) and Captain Edward “Skip” (Leslie). After retirement, they moved to Hammer Point, Tavernier, Florida where they lived on the water for 31 wonderful years. He was a member of the Burton Memorial Church where he enjoyed ushering, greeting people with affection, and volunteering to support the food pantry. He is survived by his 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several close friends.

Ed was admired for his ingenious ability to build and repair anything mechanical to make life comfortable for all. He loved boating, inventing, and his family and friends. He would “give you the shirt off his back”. But most of all, Ed loved his wife, Harriet watching his family grow and sharing his positive, loving outlook on life.
